What is the Canine Good Citizen Test?

The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program was developed by the American Kennel Club (AKC) to establish the gold standard for polite manners and real-world behavior. It is built on a simple, powerful belief: all dogs can be good citizens, and every owner can be a confident leader.

At Dog Cabin Ranch, we use this renowned, expert-made framework as the foundational blueprint for our training. It doesn't focus on rigid, robotic obedience tricks. Instead, it measures practical, everyday behaviors that prove your dog is safe, stable, and respected in your community.

The Titles We Prep and Certify:

• Canine Good Citizen (CGC): The fundamental 10-step test focusing on critical real-world basics like loose-leash walking through busy crowds, sitting politely for greetings, calm behavior around other dogs, and supervised separation.
• Canine Good Citizen Advanced (CGCA): The next level of mastery for our advanced graduates, testing your dog's manners in complex, highly distracting public settings.

Why It Is a Massive Win for You:
Passing the test earns your dog an official, globally recognized title from the AKC. Beyond the immense pride and peace of mind, this certificate carries tangible local perks. Many homeowners insurance companies, HOAs, and apartment complexes in the Texarkana area lift strict breed restrictions or entirely waive pet deposits for verified CGC graduates.

Whether you choose our Private In-Home Coaching or The Rural Decompression Program, we weave these vital skills seamlessly into your customized curriculum, preparing you to pass the official test together with complete confidence.

All breeds, mixed breeds, and ages are welcome!
